• TheOakdaleAffairisashortcontemporarymysterynovelbyEdgarRiceBurroughs.Itwaswrittenin1917undertheworkingtitleof"BridgeandtheOskaloosaKid,"andisapartialsequeltoTheMucker(1914/1916),Bridge,theprotagonist,havingbeenasecondarycharacterintheearlierwork.ItwasfirstpublishedinBlueBookMagazineinMarch1918.Itsfirstbookpublicationpaireditwithanunrelatedtale,"TheRider,"inTheOakdaleAffairandTheRider,issuedbyEdgarRiceBurroughs,Inc.inFebruary1937andsubsequentlyreprintedbyGrosset&Dunlapin1937,1938and1940.Thestory'sfirstindependentbookpublicationwasinapaperbackeditionfromAceBooksinJuly1974.SubsequenthardcovereditionswereissuedbyBuccaneer(1977)andAmeron;asubsequentpaperbackeditionwasissuedbyCharter(1979).Mosteditionsomittheoriginalending,consistingofthelast174linesofthemagazineversion,thoughtheBuccaneerandChartereditionsrestoreit.
